New classrooms at the Veal Village School.

Siem Reap, Cambodia.
In july 2009, a small separate building has been constructed on the playground of the school. The building has been made out of the same materials as the school.
It is divided in 2 parts : one “classroom” is used as a toy room and library. Toys and English books has found a place in this room. Tourists, visitors who just come by, often leave useful things to Mr Vanna : construction games, puzzles, simple but colorful books with a lot of pictures … Instead of distributing them to the children, the toys and books are kept in this room. During breaktime, the children of the school have a lot of fun in this room. But it isn’t only used by these children. Their brothers and sisters who are still too young to come to school, can enjoy this facility too. At home, children don’t have much of educational toys to play with, neither books to look in. For them, this room is a little paradise, where they can play with things they could only dream of and have a small library. In our western world, everybody has access to libraries and have books of their own. To these Cambodian children, these books aren’t only a way of getting to know the world and simply to enjoy a story, it’s also a way of learning English. The other part of the building is used as a Kmer class. Children or young adults who haven’t got the opportunity to learn how to read and write in their own language- they have a total different alphabet-can have Kmer lessons here. Every day, more and more people come to these lessons.
